Stay on Corporate siteKONE has been awarded an order to supply 139 elevators and five dumbwaiters to Hong Kong’s Express Rail Link project by the MTR Corporation. Altogether 117 elevators will be installed at the new West Kowloon terminus station. KONE’s elevators will ensure the smooth flow of people and goods in the four-level terminus station where an estimated 99,000 travelers will pass through daily.
"We are thrilled that our partnership with MTR has further developed by working together on the new Express Rail Link project. It is the result of close collaboration, mutual trust and shared values on safety, quality, service and environmental awareness, and follows on from the earlier award of the West Island Line project with MTR. We very much look forward to working together with them in the future," says Noud Veeger, EVP and Area Director of KONE Asia Pacific.
The 26-km long Express Rail Link will be running at high speeds in dedicated underground tunnels which will connect Hong Kong with the 16,000 km of mainland China’s high-speed railway network. It will carry an estimated 10,000 passengers per hour when completed in 2015. KONE currently maintains more than 1,000 elevators and escalators in the existing MTR network.
The order was booked in Q3 of 2011.
