KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has been awarded a place on CDP's prestigious 'A List' for its work in tackling climate change. The company has again been recognized for its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop a low-carbon economy and is one of a small number of high-performing companies out of nearly 12,000 companies that were scored.
Being a leader in sustainability has long
been a strategic target for KONE. The company has a key role in
making urbanization more sustainable and continues to take strong
actions together with its customers, partners and
suppliers, to develop sustainable business practices for the long
term. Last year, the company set science-based targets for
significant reductions in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the
year 2030 and has also pledged to have carbon neutral operations in
the same timeframe.
"We are extremely proud of our CDP leadership score. This
achievement truly reflects our uncompromising commitment to
continuously improve environmental excellence," says Hanna
Uusitalo, Environmental Director at KONE. "More sustainable
urbanization and approaches that benefit the climate
and environment are what we all should strive
for."
KONE has disclosed through CDP since 2009 and has received a leadership score of A or A- for climate change for nine consecutive years. CDP's annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. Over 14,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2021, including more than 13,000 companies worth over 64% of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. This makes CDP's platform one of the richest sources of information globally on how companies and governments are driving environmental change.
Each year, a detailed and independent
methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a
score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of
disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and
demonstration of best practices associated with environmental
leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful
targets.
KONE is committed to conducting its business in a sustainable way
and expects the same commitment from its suppliers: taking
responsibility for the environment and sustainability more broadly
is a central part of the KONE Code of Conduct, signed by all KONE
employees and suppliers. As a member of the UN Global Compact, KONE
supports the Sustainable Development agenda addressing the social,
economic, and environmental dimensions of
sustainability.
