KONE Corporation, press release, 3 April 2025
KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to provide a suite of People Flow® solutions for five suburban stations on line 15 West of the Grand Paris Express metro network. Driven by Société des grands projets (SGP), line 15 West will form a ring road around Paris, allowing passengers to travel between suburbs without passing through the capital.
Spanning 14 municipalities, the fully automated metro line 15 West will shorten travel time for about 800 000 inhabitants. While improved connectivity between remote areas is expected to reduce inequalities, the development of new urban spaces, real estate, and landscaping around the stations will help ease daily life.
"It's a great honor for us to be part of the Paris metro extension project," says Karla Lindahl, Executive Vice President of KONE Europe. "Establishing an efficient transportation network between suburban areas and the capital city of Paris, it will improve the daily lives of people living and commuting in the area. Delivering on the Grand Paris Express, we look forward to supplying metro line 15 West with our people flow solutions, so that passengers in the Île-de-France region can enjoy a seamless, efficient commute."
KONE will equip five stations in total. The delivery includes, among others, the installation of 40 escalators across six stories at La Défense station - Europe's largest business district - accommodating around 160,000 daily passengers, as well as 44 escalators at Saint-Cloud Station, which sees approximately 85,000 daily passengers. Other stations to be equipped include Nanterre La Folie, Nanterre La Boule, and Rueil - Suresnes Mont-Valérien.
In total, the order consists of 131 KONE TransitMaster™ 120 escalators and four KONE TransitMaster™ 165 heavy-duty autowalks.
The developer is Société des grands projets (formerly Société du Grand Paris), and the main contractor is Groupement IntenCités15 consortium (led by VINCI Construction). The architectural design was done by GRIMSHAW for La Défense station, Philippe GAZEAU for Rueil - Suresnes Mont-Valérien station, archi5 for Nanterre La Boule station, JFS Architectes for Nanterre La Folie station, and AREP for Saint-Cloud station.
KONE booked the order in Q4 of 2024. The commissioning is scheduled for 2031.
