Stay on Corporate siteKONE has received a major order from Bouygues to supply all 28 elevators and two escalators for the CB31 Tower in Paris’s La Défense district. The tower, originally built in 1974 and previously known as the AXA Tower, will be completely renewed.
During the refurbishment, the height of the building will be increased by 10 floors to 218 meters and it will become the tallest building in La Défense. The building will include 51 floors and 87,000 m2 office space.
La Défense is Europe’s second largest business district after the City of London. The renovation of the CB31 Tower is part of a major program to modernize the La Défense district in order to ensure that the district continues to appeal to visitors and investors. Once completed, the CB31 Tower will be a symbolic milestone for La Défense’s renewal.
“We are proud to have been chosen for this significant project, which will be the biggest building construction project in France fulfilling the “Haute Qualité Environnementale” environmental label requirements. We are also looking forward to work with Bouygues in building this landmark project for La Défense”, comments Eric Maziol, Area Director for West and South Europe, KONE.
18 elevators will be equipped with KONE Destination Control Systems, which optimizes the travelling time by directing the passengers to a specific elevator. This way, KONE is able to offer more than 25 percent more capacity with the existing shafts. The installation of the equipment is scheduled to be complete in the end of 2010.
Bouygues is a diversified industrial group focusing on construction, telecommunications and media. Established in 80 countries, the Bouygues group employs more than 122,500 people. The architect for the building’s design is Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.
